Maruthur Gopala Ramachandran (January 17, 1917 – December 24, 1987), popularly known by Tamil films his initials M. G. R., was a  actor, producer and politician. 

Making his film debut in 1935, in the film Sati Leelavati, directed by Ellis Dungan, an American born film director, M. G. R. dominated Tamil cinema during the Fifties and Sixties with multiple blockbusters. Generally starring in romance or action films, M.G.R. got his big breakthrough in the 1947 film Rajakumaari, written by M. Karunanidhi. He rose to superstardom in 1954 after Malai Kallan. Later, this film was used as a template for other films by playing roles that portrayed him as the saviour of the poor and the oppressd. His movies were the medium of communication for the Dravidian movement.
He had the maximum number of all-time blockbusters to his credit at that time viz. Nadodi Mannan, Enga Veetu Pillai and Adimai Pen. He was shot by fellow actor Mohan R. Radha, affecting his ability to speak clearly. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor for the filmRickshakaran. Sivaji Ganesan (born Viluppuram Chinnaiahpillai Ganesan, October 1, 1927 - July 21, 2001) was a legendary Indian film actor and one of the first method actors in India, active during the latter half of the 20th century. Kamal Haasan (born November 7, 1954 in Paramakudi, Madras State, India) is an Indian film actor, script writer, and filmmaker, considered one of the leading method actors of Indian cinema. Surya Sivakumar (born July 23, 1975) is a Tamil film actor who has won several awards and critical acclaims for various roles. He is the son of actor Sivakumar and is married to Jyothika Saravanan, a former actress. Surya debut in Nerukuner (1997). Later he starred in Friends and Nandha, for which he received a Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor. 


Surya's next venture was with Vikraman in the movie Unnai ninaithu which was followed by Mounam pesiyadhea. Kaka kaka, a movie about the life of a police officer, grossed almost 100 million at the box office. Pithamaghan, in which Surya was played a happy-go-lucky village crook in a comedic role.
